Picture it – Toronto 1967… The Leafs win the Stanley cup, the city skyline is getting higher by the day and the Mungals, a small island family from the West Indies, have arrived ready to explore a new country, new culture and big city life – or so you would think. This is the start of our very own story…
One fateful Saturday young dapper Neville, along with his siblings were gathered up by their father for an outing to explore this great new city that they had began to settle in. Maybe they would take a streetcar ride into the city to see the famous landmarks of Toronto? Perhaps a ferry ride over to the Toronto Islands? Nope – it was a family adventure to a Franchise Trade Show. Yes that’s right, a Franchise Expo – everyone’s ideal weekend activity, right?
Although it might have taken some convincing to get them there, Neville and his new bride Grace learned about the magic of the 1-hour dry cleaning service, which would become the roots of their future business.
Like most owners trying to get their business off the ground it took a lot of blood, sweat and tears… and a whole lot of “what were we thinking!”. However, in true Mungal style, we did not call it quits. Instead, From time to time Neville would come up with even more zany ideas to expand the business and prayed that Grace would go along with it!
One of those zany (more like brilliant) ideas was “Grace Restoration Lab” (Known today at Grace Wedding Gown Specialists), spearheaded by none other than the matriarch of the family, Grace.
In the early 90’s Grace had to work to get her name out there. So like any resourceful mother, she recruited her children to help work bridal trade shows. This was exactly what her children had in mind for their weekends, of course! Although it might not have seemed like the most fun at the time, this is where Grace and Neville’s children: Don, Giselle and Nadine began to grow their own knowledge for the family business.
As the gown care business grew, Grace and Neville’s son Don put his degree in Business Management to good use, becoming more engrained in the business, while his sisters pursued their own careers and to start their own families who will be enlisted to help, in due time.
Today, Grace Wedding Gown Specialists is still run as a family business rounded out by an extended family of incredible staff members. Recently, the youngest sibling Nadine has found her way back to her first and favourite job and now plays a vital role on the Grace team, working alongside her mother.
The final member of our family is of course you – our cherished customers and glowing brides, who are starting your own family traditions and history. Our family has many stories to tell and we want to help you preserve the first chapter of your own. Welcome to the family!

That’s why we put so much effort into our customer’s experience, we like to call it “The Grace Process” and here’s what you can expect.
Your Complimentary Consultation
All of our wedding gown cleaning, preservation or restoration services start with an in-depth complimentary consultation with our mother daughter team Grace and Nadine. We encourage you to be involved in your gown assessment consultation where great care is taken in examining your gown to establish its condition. Not even the smallest of details are over looked as we examine your gown layer-by-layer, together and discuss the recommended gown care options and next steps in caring for your gown.
The Intake Process
Once you’ve made the decision to have your gown cleaned, preserved or restored, your gown will then be presented to the production team along with an in-depth review of all notes or special considerations that should be taken into account when working on your gown. Special care is taken in preparing your gown for the core cleaning process by securing beadwork and placing barrier protection around delicate embellishments.
The Cleaning Process
Your gown is unique and so should the methods be in caring for your gown. We believe that the cleaning methods should be customized for your gown. We start the process by gently pre-treating the soiled areas of your gown by hand. Next, the core cleaning process begins as per the designer care label, never being treated in combination with other gowns. After cleaning, a quality inspection assessment is done by Grace to decide if more treatment is needed or if your gown is ready for finishing. Our team uses precision skills in steaming and pressing your gown to ensure all pleats, gathers and details look just right.
The Gown Reveal Appointment
The excitement of presenting your newly cleaned gown is such a highlight for us. We believe this step is so important and encourage you to come in to personally inspect your gown from top to bottom. At your gown reveal, we take you through a recap of the transformation of your gown from start to finish. Once a thorough inspection of your gown has been completed final details are determined based on your personal needs.
Our matriarch Grace personally packages your gown into its archival grade, museum quality trademark preservation box. Your beautifully preserved gown is sealed with our international lifetime guarantee. Our guarantee is recognized in over 500 cities worldwide by all members of the Association of Wedding Gown Specialists. Once the preservation stage is complete, we invite you to come and collect your beautifully packaged gown and we provide you with best practices for storage.
